Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg
I took this photo walking through the triumphal arch into Palace Square. The arch separates the two wings of the general staff building and commemorates the Russian victory over Napoleonic France in the war of 1812. The beautiful green building of Winter Palace is visible in the background and is one of the biggest museums in the world. It not only holds one of the grandest collections of European art started by Catherine the Great, but the palace has also witnessed some of the most significant events in Europe’s history. Saint Petersburg is simply beautiful.
