Big Foot Trap [photos]

While hiking along the Collings Mountain trail in the Siskiyou National Forest (in very Southern Oregon) , my husband and I took a little turn off the main trail to go take a look at this legendary big foot trap.

As you can see, this is quite a large structure and the wood planks that it's made of are rather weathered and carved with the names of other passersby. Apparently the structure was built in the 70s and was actually baited with meat but never caught Big Foot. Now the trap is inactive. If ever you find yourself in Southern Oregon, this trail and site are highly recommended.

Oddly enough Southern Oregon has a thing, a fascination, I suppose, with Big Foot. There is a Southern Oregon Bigfoot Seeker Facebook group. There are new videos from this year (2017) posted on Youtube of Big Foot sightings. A lot of Oregon merchandise features Sasquatch like the shirt I'm wearing in the above photo which reads: Squatch out! Sure maybe it's a bit kitschy but I tend on the side of let everyone have their fun!

Aside from the Big Foot trap, the panoramic views along the trail are well worth the climb.
