Beetlemania Peru

One thing which I have taken notice of since moving to northern Peru is the amount of Volkswagen Beatles that are in the area...not to mention the camper vans which are quite popular as well. Back in Florida these cars are now collectibles and can be sold for a pretty penny. However, here in Peru the Beatle is quite popular and inexpensive.

These cars are over twenty years old and have no rust thanks to the arid climate here in the Atacama Desert. Parts are readily available which make it a great car for the local Peruvians in the area. I myself prefer a 4x4 pickup truck, but when you are in a pinch a Beatle will most certainly do.

These cars were all parked within a couple of spaces of each other...which is why I decided to take the photos. I guarantee you that there were at least ten more of these cars within a two minute walk of each other.
