We are Sandeepa and Chetan travelers from Mumbai, India. We have quit our jobs, sold our house and are traveling full time around the world. Our latest trip was in South America – 5 months, 6 countries, 23,000km. Several buses, 3 boat journeys and 1 flight.
We went snorkeling with the sea lions in Patagonia, saw the world’s only growing glacier in the Andes, walked over the flattest place on earth at Salar de Uyuni, met the ancient Incan civilisation up-close-and personal at Machu Picchu, got drenched in waterfalls 3 times the size of Niagara at Iguazu and lived in the Amazon!
The start of our journey into travel
Sandeepa is an Electronics Engineer. Chetan has an advertising and design background.
Our love for travel and nature was one of the reasons we were drawn to each other. Our first trip together was our honeymoon, to Coorg, in the western ghats in India (now a UNESCO world heritage site). We stayed in homestays, went on treks, forest walks and safaris and had a great time.
Back home, we would travel to lesser known offbeat places on long weekends or holidays. We signed up on Couchsurfing and got to meet travellers from all over the world right in our homes! The dream to travel long term was always there – only pushed ahead to “sometime in the future”.
Until one day, we decided to not wait till we got older. We quit our jobs, sold our house and start exploring travel and photography as a way of life. That is how the travel and photography journey started.
We practiced “life on the road” by traveling through the Himalayas for 3 months. We left Mumbai with a one way ticket to Delhi. When we came back, we had traveled to places like Chatpal and Reshwari that the locals didn’t know, on a whim gone on the Amarnath yatra, done an unguided trek to the remote monastery of Phuktal, lived with a shepherd’s family in Zanskar, traveled in a truck…the list goes on.
We loved every single minute of these 3 months. That’s when we knew, for sure, that we were prepared for a life of travel!
How we like to travel
We travel with no fixed plan, letting serendipity guide us. We travel as slow as our visas allow. Public transport is our preferred mode of transport. Homestays our preferred mode of accommodation. We love the mountains and the beaches. Islands and deserts. Tiny obscure lanes might be our favourite part of a big tourist city.
Our fondest memories are the ones where we have spent time with the people we have met in our journeys. Always!
