Queenstown, New Zealand - Home to One of the World's Most Extreme Airports!!!!!

Queenstown, the mountain town where I live has an airport and due to it being located in a mountain environment, it is one of the worlds most extreme airports to land in. The runway is short and it is surrounded by high mountains and Lake Wakatipu.

I've flown in and out of Queenstown airport many times and whilst I am a nervous flyer take off and landing is amazing. You are literally flying in between mountains as you come into land.

Below are some photos I have taken coming into land and taking off from Queenstown, I think it is quite impressive!

As the aircraft descends it has to start flying in between the mountains.

You can see the Crown Range Road from here.

Lake Hayes can be seen from here.

Queenstown airport is sandwiched between the mountains and the lake is right at the end of the runway.

Take off from Queenstown, Dear Park Heights can be seen out of the window.

The aircraft has to take a dramatic left turn to avoid hitting the mountains.

Queenstown can be seen below.

Cecil Peak and Kelvin Heights are below.

This is a panorama photo of Queenstown, it shows how mountainous the area is.

I hope you enjoyed these photos, a little unusual but I live in a pretty unique town.
