Today I met a Forest Giant. He flew right up to me three or four times and landed close by on a palm tree. This is the largest of all damselfly species in the world. As well as this stunning blue one pictured below I also saw a yellow wing tipped one equally beautiful and dramatic when in flight.
They specialize in preying on spiders in their webs and breed high in the trees in “phytotelmata”, the small bodies of water that collect in plants, like bromeliads.

In flight they are one of the most magical forest creatures I have ever seen!
