Did you use original flavor? I'm not sure which one of the main storebought brands does it but one of them adds something to their brews to make it hard for people like you to use it to start your own, an inhibitor of sorts. Do a little research if you're trying to make your own from scratch. They're easy enough to order off amazon and people in the Kombucha brewing groups on facebook are more than willing to send scobies for shipping costs alone. There are options for ya :)

Yeah just type in kombucha and there's like 5 or 6 really popular. Kombucha brewers, komucha brew crew, kombucha life and ferments. Just throw up a post with where you're at and that you're lookin for a scoby. Who knows, maybe you'll get a fancy heirloom jun or tibetan or island girl scoby!
I need to do more research then. This types of scobies is throwing me off.
They're just from specific parts of the world and act slightly differently. If you're offered any scobies by the names I mentioned, accept them gladly and do research later :P
