The biggest tree in the world “General Sherman”

in #photography6 years ago

This last week the family decided to take a drive through the Sequoia National Park, and we stopped and walked the “Sherman Tree Trail”

@daniel-san, @theharvey and @aaronthegoat all made the journey the the biggest tree in the world.

The boys walked the half mile to the General Sherman, but they didn’t have enough gas to walk back up to the car.

The General Sherman doesn’t look like much until you see that one huge branch and then walk around it.

The drive though the Sequoia National Park is such a relaxing drive, and it’s so nice that’s it’s so close to our front door.

From our house we only have to make one left turn to get up into the park and one left turn after the exit out of Kings Canyon National Park to return home.

I’m @runridefly, and if you ever need a tour of the park, send me a message.

You live in a beautiful part of the world, my friend. Great for you.

And a huge tree too :) How old is it?

@ervin-lemark, because of its size, they think it’s a 1000 years older than the other giant sequoias. They planted a giant Sequoia downtown around 80 years ago and it doesn’t look much different than a lot of trees in the area. I think it’s around 60 feet tall. Who really knows, but I would like to go back in a time machine and see the baby giant Sherman.

Me too :)

They estimate its age up to 2700 years -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Sherman_(tree)

Impressive :)

Let me know when you want me to drive you up there.

Great and thanks for the offer. I will tell you well in advance when I will be near :)

The Sherman isn’t too far from Moro Rock. The Rocks are bigger than the tree around here.98D4280F-2EA4-42AD-8A96-28C4870D3EF8.jpeg. The bigger trees to the left of Moro Rock are Giant Sequoias

We can rent a passenger van and take our families together. I will start running on a regular schedule so we can go for a few runs while you visit the area.

General Sherman (tree)
General Sherman is a giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, in the U.S. state of California. By volume, it is the largest known living single-stem tree on Earth. While the General Sherman is the largest currently living tree, it is not the largest historically-recorded tree. The Crannell Creek Giant, a coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) near Trinidad, California, is estimated to have been 15 to 25% larger than the General Sherman tree by volume. That tree was cut down in the mid-1940s.

Wow what beautiful park and how cool that you live so close! I would love to visit sometime. Where exactly is this? Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏼☺️

I live in Visalia California

Awesome! Thanks for the info.! I do want to make it there to see the giants. I will definitely post when I do. Thanks!
