What in the world is a Klamm? I lived in Germany for a long time and I had never heard of a Klamm, but that changed when we moved close to the border to Austria. As I understand it, a Klamm is a narrow canyon in the mountains with overhanging rock formations and water running through it. The Austrians turn them into amazing natural attractions with boardwalks and hanging footbridges.

Was in der Welt ist eine Klamm? So wie ich es verstehe, ist eine Klamm eine enge Schlucht in den Bergen mit überhängenden Felsformationen und Wasser, das durch sie hindurchläuft.

Ich lebte lange in Deutschland und hatte nie von einer Klamm gehört, aber das hat sich geändert, seitdem wir an der Grenze zu Österreich wohnen. Die Österreicher machen sie zu erstaunlichen Erlebnissen, mit Plankenwegen und hängenden Fußgängerbrücken.
We had driven by a parking lot probably a hundred times, and we simply thought it was one of the many hiking trails which are ubiquitous in our region. So finally we stopped to check it out and realized we had a Klamm just a short drive away. I have seen one other Klamm and it was more awe inspiring than this one, by that I mean if you had slipped off the boardwalk you would probably not live to tell about it.
Wir sind bestimmt hundertmal an einem Parkplatz vor der Klamm vorbei gefahren. Wir meinten, es sei einer der vielen Wanderwege, die in unserer Region allgegenwärtig sind. Gestern hielten wir endlich an und erkannten, dass wir eine Klamm nur eine kurze Autofahrt von uns entfernt haben! Ich besichtigte schon mal eine andere Klamm, die deutlich imposanter war -- damit meine ich, wenn du da von dem Plankenweg abrutschen würdest, würdest du wahrscheinlich nicht lebendig davon kommen.
Late August probably isn't the ideal time to visit this particular Klamm, we plan to go back in May next year when the snow is melting and the volume of water will be considerably greater.
Spät August ist wohl nicht die ideale Zeit für eine Besichtigung. Nächstes Jahr im Mai, nach der Schneeschmelze, werden wir wiederkommen. .
