Reinhardstein, a castle in Belgium

in #photography6 years ago

The castle of Reinhardstein is a castle of the fourteenth century located in the Belgian High Fens, in the province of Liège

Its current location at the top of a rocky peak overlooking the Warche Valley was already known by the Celts.

They dug a ditch of which traces were found in the rock.

The Romans and Carolingians did not fail to appreciate the strategic value of the places they also occupied.

In 1354, Renaud de Waimes rebuilt a castle by relying on certain foundations and integrating with it elements of the previous fortresses.

After 150 years of abandonment and destruction, the Castle of Reinhardstein found in 1970 a reason to exist.

Day and night, this place, already elected of the Celts, seems to want to keep its secrets.

It attracts, it intrigues. Everyone discovers something, a bit of his dreams as a child, his expectations as an adult.

A castle for all? Certainly. But not for anyone! We must deserve it.

Isolated from the modern world, it seems to mock the agitation of the century.

It is on foot that one must reach it to try to understand it or to hear the song of birds, to seize the furtive shade of a deer or the rustle of the brook
