Vixie the Clown - The Art behind Glam Clowning

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Happy Halloween!

Vixie the Clown is loose on the cape, and here's the proof! -
This set is an exclusive Steemit compilation. Please enjoy these photos responsibly, this scary holiday. Cape Perpetua is a historic lookout point, off the Oregon coast, and makes for the perfect glam clown location. Where else would a beautiful, yet sad clown go to recharge after a long day? Late afternoon also makes for a good bit of lighting, as it fades from the sky.

At its highest point, Cape Perpetua rises to over 800 feet (240 m) above sea level. From its crest, an observer can see 70 miles (110 km) of Oregon coastline and as far as 37 miles (60 km) out to sea on a clear day. -wikipedia

It was a tough journey in makeup that morning.

Even tougher was the ascent to Stone House. We drove up a tight road, barely big enough for one vehicle, parked at the top of an overlook, and hiked down the trail a bit. Then it was time to put on the boots...those babies took a minute to lace up. Meanwhile the old people scattered about decided to mill off. The wedding photographer finished, allowing us room to shoot. We did, however, receive a wonderful compliment from the bride.

The Stone House location

The Stone House was a clear destination choice.

We were lucky to be there so late in the afternoon. We got the place to ourselves until we were done before anybody came around wanting to do the same thing. We had a blast navigating poses in and out of the house. There were also ferns and old trees to intermingle with...and of course the path. The shadows on the inside of the old fort were simply epic to work with. The view was to die for. A little history behind the structure:

During World War II, the West Shelter observation point was used as a coastal watch station, and a large coastal defense gun was temporarily installed. -wikipedia

I had fun editing these black and white filters to look scary.

Realistically, Vixie is beautiful no matter what I do to her image. The color edits were also fun to put a vintage ball wash filter on. This mutes the color tones but contrasts the textures.

Thanks for watching along with this set.

I have been dying to release it. It was so much fun to photograph one of my best friends. We love being out in nature as it is. This was an excellent opportunity to explore the site and to make some memories. The chance to inspire one young teen girl, who stopped and talked to us as we came back through on the trail, was truly an honor. Glad we could give her something to look up to in her cosplay world.

Cosplay is a great way to have safe fun, while expressing yourself.

I hope you all have fun dressing up for Halloween tonight. I will be driving for Lyft and wearing my sexy cop outfit - hope to see you around Corvallis (OSU)!
