Umur lalat rumah antara 1–2 bulan dan ada yang 6 bulan sampai 1 tahun. Selama
dalam siklus hidupnya lalat rumah mempunyai 4 stadium. Pertama, stadium telur.
Stadium ini lamanya 12–24 jam. Bentuk telur lonjong bulat berwarna putih. Besar
telur 1–2 mm. Telur dikeluarkan oleh betina sekaligus sebanyak 100–150 butir.
Di tempat kotoran yang panas dan lembab merupakan faktor yang dapat
mempengaruhi lamanya stadium ini. Makin panas makin cepat, makin dingin makin
lambat.
