Taigu - photographs from 2002

Taigu is an old banking centre in Shanxi Province. My first teaching job was there - I arrived in June 2001.

The city had been very wealthy, but was not so in 2001. The students also told me that their grandparents used to reach into the wells and fill a bucket by hand; now the water has to be pumped from 90m down.
