Collection of 4000 photos of the Normandy Landing

More than 4,300 photos of the Normandy Landing, on which the Allied army completely changed the course of World War II, have been posted online. The images show the darker, warmer side of the war, from wounded soldiers to ruined French cities.

The photos have been published thanks to a project that began in 2007 to document these photos with their respective details and protagonists. All images come from the Normandy Archives of the Municipal Library of Cherbourg in France and from different archives of the United States.

The landing of the Allies and the Battle of Normandy took place on June 6, 1944, a date known as the "D-Day." The allied army was composed of US, British and Canadian soldiers, who were greeted by the German army with bullets at the seaside of Normandy. It was a battle that left almost 700,000 dead between both sides.

All the images have been published in a gigantic Flickr album, and then you can see some of the ones that hit me the most.
