Ratel's photos #73 Water Birds-6
The wood sandpiper (Tringa glareola)
In Russian, this bird has a funny name. Something like "Phee-Phee".
Why did they call her that? I did not find the answer. Most likely, this is due to her characteristic voice of "Phee-Phee!" calls.
It is often confused with other waders (sandpipers). And it can be understood, waders are very difficult to distinguish from each other!
Especially often confused with The green sandpiper (Tringa ochropus).
It differs from him with a long white eye-brow. And as a large and colorful drawing.
In the rest, the way of life and nutrition, all the same as he has.
The wood sandpiper went to the coast, on bare stones, and looked for various insects in the mud.
The bird was not afraid of me, walked 10-20 meters from me, but still looked at me, just in case.
The bird was walking alone, and the other two birds were resting in the thickets.
