B&W Photo Contest ~Theme ~ Animals - Entry #3 B&W Wood Ducks

Wood Ducks are one of the most colorful ducks but they also make great subjects for black and white because of their contrasting patterns. I photographed this one at Neary Lagoon in the heart of Downtown Santa Cruz. Neary is a protected water estuary that is the home to a wide range of wildlife including waterfowl, fish, turtles, and even racoons. On occasion even mountain lions have been spotted there, presumably having descended from the nearby Santa Cruz mountains.
