Butterfly Docent, A Friday Poet's Poem and Photography

Butterfly Docent

IMG_5861.jpg

land softly
but stay lithe
from rough hands
keep your distance

worry little over bees
they rarely sting
more content to fumble through the air
storing away memories of flowers gone
crystalline sweet stuff stacked neatly in the hive
given respect and space
the buzzing set remain friends, not foes

IMG_5863 (1).jpg

allow metamorphoses
of thought and form
lead those who have not found flight
teach the strength of softness
the transformational power of the dark
the necessity of balance
the dishonesty of fear

gather sweet things
from solar-lit temperate climes
but don’t overstay the warmth
when the summer sun slips
below the autumnal meridian
seek the centre of being

IMG_5861 (1).jpg

remain gentle and supple
keep your eyes focused on beauty
the butterfly is the greatest of teachers
the most elusive and vulnerable of sages
tend to them as you would
your own heart

...

A big warm shout to @violetmed, who is actually a butterfly docent:) Thank for the inspiration Violet.

Thank you Pryde; so glad I gave you inspiration! I enjoyed this poem and love your photos!

Thank you so much, Violet:)

This is a valuable lesson to all. One of the sacred texts of Hinduism, the Holy Bhagavatam has similar such teachings wherein we are inspired to observe animals and learn from them. Your poem reminded me of it. Thank you so much

Thank you, Sayee:) So it is with Taoism ... truth is truth:):):) Namaste:)

Profound and subtle.

allow metamorphoses
of thought and form
lead those who have not found flight
teach the strength of softness
the transformational power of the dark
the necessity of balance
the dishonesty of fear

This is the kind of commandment I'd like to have found on stone.

Thanks, @prydefoltz.

And you, too, are that gentle and sage butterfly, Pryde, that you see and describe with such heart and insight. 🙏🏼

Namaste, Yahia:)

In spirit, though not in form, this poem is very haiku-like :). And in aestetics it also reminds me works of celebrated Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert.

From a Steemit side, i am eager to take part in Friday poets contest, but i feel slightly lost in the rules ;) ;) .

Wow! Wow! Your shots are much better than mine) haha my Docent was using the camouflage of little rocks on the ground IMG_20180622_115050_1.jpg

Keeping distance from the rough hands - the law for beauty to respect to not be turned into routine...

She is a beauty, nonetheless:) Thank you, LR:)

Hello Pryde, the butterfly and the flower are exponents of the beauty of nature. They illuminate our eyes and our thoughts fall in love with such a sublime beauty.

They do. Thank you, Cordero:)

Interesting perspective that shows a philosophy of life. The butterfly as a symbol of transformation, metamorphosis; It is treated as a point of equilibrium between the transition from the ugly to the beautiful, the dark to the light. The bee, in counterpart is referential, alludes to that both have common tasks with the flowers, but they are not enemies, both pollinate, They enlarge life. Nature is wise and each living being is a teacher in a function, each human being also has gifts and talents that, often does not explode by enclosing itself in denial. Good didactic poetry is what you have here, Pryde!

Wonderful insight. Thank you, Zeleira:)

you are now an unofficial butterfly whisperer, if not a docent - I went to a butterfly pavilion once - Does that qualify? lol

I does:) Thank you, John:)

Very well said. I love the spring when all colorful flowers are blooming.

A beautiful time of year. Thank you, starlady:)
