A horseshoe bat in hibernation

The image above was carefully and quickly taken by myself as we entered the underworld of Wiltshire, UK. I had to ensure the light didn't disturb his sleep and absolute silence was maintained, before promptly moving forwards in our explore in the vast amount of tunnels underneath Wiltshire.

Wiltshire is thought to hold the largest population of the horseshoe bat which has just been declared a stable species after being endangered for last decade.

You can see the frost on the wings as he cocoons in hibernation for the winter!
