Night photography: little selection of my night shots

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!

I am happy to submit my entry for the current #fototema (photo theme) by @tazi that is "night photography".

This category used to be practically forbidden to me with my older phones that sucked really bad if they were not used in broad daylight but my new phone (Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite) finally enables me to venture (still very bashfully though) into this dark corner of the world of photography :)

Today, I am going to show you three night photos that I took with my new phone in the past couple of weeks. I will also add some background info about the landmarks featured in the images.

Juliusz Slowacki Theater, Krakow, Poland

Opened in 1893, the Krakow Theater is one of the oldest and most beautiful theaters in Poland (and possibly all Central Europe). Sixteen years later, in 1903, the theater was named after Juliusz Slowacki, a prominent Polish Romantic poet. Located on the Holy Spirit Square in the historic center of Krakow, the theater is one of the most famous and photographed landmarks of this Polish metropolis. Designed by Jan Zawiejski, the building is also considered one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Poland.

St. Hedwig´s Church, Opava, Czech Republic

Built between 1933 and 1937, the St. Hedwig´s Church is considered one of the most important modernist architectural landmarks of my Czech hometown of Opava as well as one of the greatest works of the prominent Silesian architect Leopold Bauer. Easily recognizable by its unusual, pyramid-like appearance, the church is dedicated to St. Hedwig (also known as Hedwig of Silesia), a famous Duchess of Silesia who lived in the late 12th and early 13th century. Known for her great military skills while defending her region from the Teutonic Knights, she was canonized by the Pope Clement IV in 1267.

National Museum, Prague, Czech Republic

Founded as early as in 1818, the National Museum in Prague is one of the oldest and most important museums in the country as well as all Central Europe. With its main building located in the upper part of the famous Wenceslas Square in the very center of the city, the museum currently houses almost 14 million items from a variety of different areas including art, history, nature, literature, folklore etc. One of the most popular and photographed tourist attractions of Prague, the museum has long been under an extensive reconstruction with its main building being covered with some ugly scaffoldings for years but the renovation works finally finished just a few weeks ago so everyone can now enjoy this architectural gem of Prague in its full beauty and glamour again.

I know these shots still cannot be compared to photos taken with a regular camera but to me, it is a huge improvement from what I was used to before. For a better perspective, I am adding two night photos of the downtown of Los Angeles, California that I took with my previous cell phone (Prestigio 3530 DUO Muze D3).

Absolutely! These are absolutely fabulous and I would never have guessed you took it with a cell phone. Actually I might have because sometimes the cell phone takes better pictures in the dark then a camera

Thanks for checking these Denise :) Yeah, some of the current cell phones can compete with regular cameras even in this category ;)

That is so true! There are some shots that only come out well with a cell phone too. How odd is that??
