Salvador, Bahia

In Salvador you can see, hear und taste the influence of African culture because it was once the first slave port and makes it nowadays to the center of Afro-Brazilian culture. It is one of the oldest colonial cities and today the largest city in the Northeast Region and still you can find a lot of beautiful beaches close to the center.

Baianas, the Afro-Brazilian woman in their traditional clothes offering a spiritual cleanse. In Salvador Afro-American religions like Candomblé or Umbanda are very active und you can participate in some sessions.

The Pelourinho (the old downtown) was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 because of its Portuguese colonial architecture and historical monuments. Even Michael Jackson left his mark when he shot his video They Don't Care About Us.

At the Dique do Toroó you can see the Orixás which are spirits of nature or minor gods. Maybe one of the most important is called Iemanjá. The Queen of the Ocean!

A very traditional dish called moqueca. I love it! The dendê oil gives the dish an unique flavour.
