Winter shots of apple and wine farms!

Ever wondered where these come from?

We now live in the Elgin valley, known for its high quality export apples and wines. Even the winter season cannot detract from the beauty of this valley and in spring it transforms into a veritable paradise!
But let me show you!

Most of the farms, like this one, have their own private dams for irrigation purposes!

The apple trees are planted in numbered blocks and separate blocks are planted with different varieties!

During winter the trees are stripped, pruned, trimmed and prepared for the new growing season!

Apple farming, although seasonal, is a very labor intensive industry, as great care is taken of the trees to ensure that they bear top quality fruit!

But then again, so is wine farming, as the vineyards also require constant care!

The apples and wines of the Elgin valley are world renowned and the produce is exported across the globe!

It is indeed a new world for us, as we are already living here for almost a month now. Coming from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Johannesburg, with its wailing sirens and clogged traffic, not to speak of the crime and other big city ills, this place is like nirvana. Of course we are still on our nerves in the unusual silence and relaxed lifestyle of the locals, but I know that we will also change over time!
I hope you have enjoyed this brief look at our new life!

How exciting that you are living in this lifestyle :) Beautiful photos. Its lovely to see the hills covered with trees.

@sagescrub, we live in a valley that is surrounded by mountains and the entire valley consists of separate farms cultivating apples, citrus and wine grapes. It certainly make the hills look to be carpeted by nature! Blessings!

That sounds like such a delight! What an amazing feeling it must be to see all those farms in concert like bees buzzing around pollinating.

Pruning trees and vines at the right time and on the right notch reminds me of growing up being taught how to help in our garden.

Garden of life this should be applied from time to time @papilloncharity

Agreed Lady Joan, yet we have not yet perfected the maintenance of the garden of life! Too many bad trees that are bearing bad fruits. All children should be taught about the necessity of corrective pruning, as it just might make them to understand the necessity of our own pruning at times! Blessings! @joanstewart
