9687 Community members empowered with Computer Skills.

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

We have a huge lost generation in South Africa and over the past 16 years, a small Non Profit, The Papillon Foundation, has empowered many of these souls with computer and other accredited skills courses.

These photos were taken today and here you see our trainer in the yellow top with the class. Learners are also encouraged to help each other, as it increases understanding and forms new community friendships and bonds.

This photo was taken last year when Papillon still had the money to run full classes, but due to a lack of support we can now only use one half of the computer center.

And finally I leave you with this photo that was also taken while Papillon still had external support.

Things took a turn for the worse when our main funder sold his business to retire. Then of course the country was also downgraded due to political unrest and huge un-employment figures.
There are several other reasons, but safe to say that the first place that businesses started cutting was their support to charities.

Ever since Papillon was able to barely keep the doors open and the struggle continues! I thought that we would close down in 2015, then again in 2016 and this year it has become worse. But the battle continues!
This is the reason why I joined Steemit, in the hope that I could raise some operational funding for Papillon.

Blessings to all that have thus far supported us via voting, resteeming and tips.
Your help is very much appreciated by all The Papillon Foundation.

Presumably if you had more funding then there would be the demand from people needing the computer training?

As part of the computer training could the people being trained be introduced to steemit? As is happening in Venezuela?

Maybe you could get some of the course participants to post blogs on here and you could link them together to help raise the profile of the Papillon Charity.

May I ask how much does it cost to run the computer training per session?

The demand at this stage is insatiable, as there are millions that need skills training. We only do the basic training such as Windows, Word, Excell, Powerpoint, Windows Explorer and E-Mails/Internet! The same courses are available at colleges and universities, but Papillon partners with the course suppliers and therefore offer the courses at huge discounts! I like your idea of gathering them to post on here and will approach all of the newly employed persons! Blessings! Stephen

I will be interested to read more posts on this.

Thank you for your interest and your kind support @pennsif. There are many posts about our work on our page and of course I will post more in the future! Blessings! Stephen

Supporting the future generation, teaching with tools of the trade in these economic times is a long road @papilloncharity

Indeed Lady Joan, a mess as it is and we have sacrificed for 16 years now. No government support, but we have learnt to do things ourselves with what we have. Should the time arrive to pack it up, we will simply continue to run the charity projects elsewhere. Blessings.

Great job papillon foundation.

Thank you my friend! Blessings!

Keep up the good work! I hope 2018 is a better year!

You should not have to struggle for funding when you are doing such great work. Upped, resteemed and tip!

It is a sure and very stressful fight Lady Melinda! In our case it's not what you do but who you know! There are thousands of little NPO.s, NGO.s, PBO.s and other worthy causes in our country that are all fighting for a piece of the same financial pie! The you have the rich and connected ones that skims the cream off the top. Yet other desperate souls steal the donations thereby giving every other honest souls a bad image! On and on it goes and in the end it is a sad state of affairs. Believe me, you don't want our jobs! It is people like you that keeps us going but it's difficult to get noticed. Thank you for your kind heart! Blessings!

It's a shame that you can't hold the full classes anymore. When folks learn about technology they become resilient to all sorts of crime and victimization.

Would you be interested in posting your annual financial public statements so members here can be reassured how donations are spent? My thoughts are it may encourage more to donate and support. There are myriad possibilities on the Steem blockchain.

Certainly a good idea! I will speak to our auditors! Thank you for the kind advice! Blessings! Stephen

That's great, keep us up to speed 👍

Thank you and will do!
