BackYard Street Art Brick Lane East London (Photographic Study)
Transient Culture
As some of you will know, I'm a prolific documenter of Street art, transient art, temporary installations and that which may be alternatively known as Graffitti. Luckily I live not too far from the ever effervescent Shoreditch and Brick Lane. Locations which abound with some of the world's best examples of stencil work and epic murals. The exhibitions change rapidly and I have been documenting this particular area for over 10 years. Here's a small selection of BackYard Street Art
Here Today Gone Tomorrow
These first examples pay homage to their decrepit surroundings. Surreal and wondrously dark at the same time, the fox BBQ using his own tail as a fire while smoking reminds me of Honest John from Disney's classic Pinocchio and fits in very welll with the rusty old gate he hangs off in this rotting yard.
Everything as Canvas
In this set, every conceivable surface has become a canvas from doors to bins, hoardings, bits of fence and shuttering. Adding to the transient feeling of the neighbourhood the location is an obvious choice for Street Artists as every Sunday on a good weather day up to 500,000 visitors flock to the markets and food stalls of Brick Lane. The area is known for it's pioneering creativity with studios, galleries, designers, digital folk and other assorted millennial entrepreneurs making this area their permanent home. The work changes quickly as the area develops.
Favourites
We all have favourites. In this set at the bottom a rather unassuming and small stencil of 1930's filmstar and Gangster legend character (the original De Niro) James Cagney with an Aphrodite wielding an AK47 by BENNAZZ

Nice collection , it's amazing how a drab wall can become an amazing canvas
Thanks Pam, that's why I love it.. I mean that backyard was really skanky and the artwork reflected it's horrid state with a post-modern kind of irony ! and a sense of quite wonderful exuberance !
Nice, but trippy, but nice, but trippy, but nice...
very trippy.. I think this street artist partakes in some high grade psychotropic substances. we may be wrong but you can smell it in the finished work !
They look awesome, this is what counts.
yeah really good and if we don't photograph them.. they'll soon be gone. That's my real interest.. conservation of fine art.
Well done @outerground. I also do not miss a chance to take a photo of a mural, but there are not many as interesting as those you have collected. Upvoted, resteemed & DPS.
helps that I live in the eye of the storm !
