Awesome piece. Rockhounding has become my newest iterest, and I've been slightly obsessed. I never thought I'd find a downside living close to the beach, but upon discovering this new passion, I also discovered there isn't much to find this close to the coast. Definetly some good opportunities in my state, but what I've found is a good 5 hour drive away, which takes planning and is rather frustrating when you are feeling obsessed and want to go go go now. Lol.
Lol ya i feel the same way. I live in PA and i have to go to North Carolina and northwestern parts of Georgia to find awesome rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. One day i would love to go to Montana and mine there. They have the most amazing gems stones there, its unreal.
I am from up north as well- lived in MD all my life untill moving to SC this past year. There is a place in SC called Diamond Hill that I'd like to make a weekend trip out of. Mostly amythest comes out of it, but have seen some amazing pieces dug there. Plus its open digging as opposed to gettibg a bucket to sift through.. whih doesn't seem as exciting to me. I saw NC has ALOT of opportunites... any recommendations that you have? I'll have to check out Montana.. not likely to be able to make a trip any time soon, but its still fun to see what people discover in different places. Its interesting, I figured with all the mountains up North there would be more options but that seems not to be the case from what I've seen, and defiently solidifes the observation if you are having to travel down to NC.
Well the place i got this emerald was in NC you can look the location on google, look up north carolina hiddenite mine. Its a really nice mine my family would always stop there while on vacation ever year. You can get almost any gemstone there you can think of and all so they have an onsite gem cutter. Last year i found a amazing orange garnet and had the guy cut it for $50 and it ended up cutting in to a 3.5 carat stone and few months later i sold it on ebay for $150 so that was fun lol I do sell all kinds of jewelry on ebay but one day i would love to have a business where i mine the gems myself then cut the gems myself and then sell them for a big profit.. Couldn't think of a more fun business then that.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definetly check it out- it sounds awesome. So cool you found that garnet and were able to turn a profit! I agree; it would be an awesome line of business to be in. I'm hoping to get or make a rock tumbler for the time veing... I just which there were even some agates around locally that I could find to practice on, but as far as I can tell there isn't. Bags of untumbled stones are pretty cheap on amazon, especially compared to their tumbled counterparts, so I was thinking of starting there. As new age spirtuality is becomeing more common place, there is alot of demand for all kinds of stones, so that could be a worthwhile venture too, although I enjoy it as a hobby moreso then looking at it for business. I was just rereading your comment to see what else I needed to reply to and saw you have an ebay store.. so you probably already know all of what I just said. Haha. Whats your ebay link if you don't mind? I'd love to check it out.
It wouldn't let me reply to your last comment for some reason. Write me on my youtube channel. I dont like to talk about ebay stuff in public chat. My last blog i did had a one of my video's in it that would take you to my channel. https://steemit.com/video/@orcish/first-attempt-at-creating-a-animatoin

Gotcha! Thanks! And I ran into that on another post. Maybe they only let a comment thread go so deep? Thats my best guess.
