Peculiar Wildflowers

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

These flowers with their unusual colour combination I saw the other day grow on a plant called bittersweet (Solanum dulcamara), bitterzoet in Dutch:

The books say that the plant tastes bitter at first, and then sweet. I wonder how people found out, as parts of this plant are a bit toxic, like many of the nightshades are. Yes, still talking about this plant.

Great shot and narrative - love your reply to my friend @tattoodjay!

which part of it edible? the color looks so nice and a bit strong.

bittersweet this is intresing. but what is my concern is that, the plant is also toxic.
thanks for the enlightenment

Very similar to potato flowers (which are in the same family of course)

Nice flower! Some nightshades are very tasty though!

At least parts of them are, yes! 8-)

Not many eat the stems and trunk(?) portions of a tomato plant! :P

It is such a beautiful flower and interesting point I often wonder that about some exotic food what ever made people decide to try them in the first place

they look really pretty :) thank you for sharing

Nice pic.. Funny looking flowers :)
