One tree trunk, five autumn pictures (all mushrooms)

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

I don't mind the odd bit of lazy photographing; these five pictures were all shot within one square meter, or yard, if you are so inclined, on or near an old tree stump. All pictures were taken yesterday in the Aamsveen, The Netherlands.

This red one I only saw in thick layers of fallen leaves:

These tiny brown ones grew on top of the tree stump:

One half of the tree stump was covered in Shrek's ears, not mushrooms but lichen:

These were growing near the bottom of the tree stump:

These were half way up:

More when I see them!

These mushroom pictures. There's a certain charm to them, hard to explain. I like them.
The red one looks like something that could kill me within minutes though. I think I'd be more afraid of that than a bear.

Not sure about that, I've never eaten bear 8-), but the red one does look poisonous. I err on the safe side and eat none of them.

To me, the red one looks like a Russula. There are some edible ones, but most will make us throw up, if we could actually stand their taste. But if it gets taken over by a specific parasitic fungus, it could become the edible and choice "Lobster mushroom". How crazy is that! Fungi are amazing - and kind of intimidating if we think about them too much - they are everywhere, working, all the time, undercover. Some for good (in symbiotic relationships and as decomposers) and some for bad (parasites and rots). They are a different kingdom, indeed, and battles are being fought!

You always bewitched me with your mushroom. exquisite! 😍 👍

Thank you!

Some look very tasty.

Maybe, but I don't know which, if any, are edible, so be careful, wouldn't want you to fall ill.

Yes, I know, the last ones look if they can be eaten, but that says nothing when it comes to mushrooms. Would like to learn though.

Our Eastern European friends seem to know a lot about mushrooms, and @haphazard-hstead also.

Thanks, will have a look out for their info.

I really like the Shrek's ears!

Funny, aren't they? It's one of the Cladoniae, Cladonia fimbriata I think.

Thank you for posting @ocrdu. Lovely photographs.....we appreciate your contribution to Steemit. The mushroom photos do not dissappoint.

Thank you!

It's amazing how much fungal life there is in a forest. Your 'square meter survey' really highlights that. Nice photos!
