Old Bug
In fact, just a dead moth and a bit of leaf, but preserved in amber, and over 40 million years old:

I found this myself in Denmark, and took it home and polished it. Odds are the species of moth inside is extinct now, and I haven't been able to identify it.
It is not the biggest or most spectacular specimen of amber (the stone is just 15mm (0.6") across, and contains just a moth), but it is mine and I love it!

I wish you hadn't said that 8-). It's just a moth, fortunately, and kept well away from crazy scientists!

That's so cool! What kind of place did you find it? It probably wasn't in a big drip of sap from a living tree, lol. Was it in with rocks, or just dirt?
And is that the first use of a Scanjet for a Steemit photo? Steemit documentarians need to know! ; )
I found it on the beach on the west coast of Jutland, near the water line.
Don't know about the Scanjet, but it could very well be the first time! What do I win? 8-)
Wow, that amber must be tough to hold up under the waves on the beach! I wonder if any science labs could identify the species of tree from a tiny sample of the amber.

Well, it's only a small piece of amber, pebble-sized. I found it between shells and some jet- and flotsam a storm had deposited on the beach.
Ah yes, the huge and ancient HP scanjet 5400c. It just won't stop working. I dedicate my reward to it.
Wow - it's interesting to think where that amber must have traveled, to be on a beach. You've got some good eyes to spot it in among the shells, flotsam and jetsam!
Well, I was looking for amber, to be honest; it was a good place for it, I was told. No high hopes, but luck prevailed.
