New fungus
New to me, that is; I found this red, spongy blob on dead birch wood next to some more common mushrooms:

Does anybody know what it could be? I can't seem to find it in the books.

It might be a slime mold. Those things are weird and they can even move. Wikipedia has an article about them.
Could well be, I made some posts about them earlier. Weird thing indeed. It's a good thing they move only slowly 8-).
