First damselfly this year: the common winter damselfly
The first damselfly I have seen this year in The Netherlands: a common winter damselfly (Sympecma fusca). These damselflies spend the winter as an adult and come out in spring with the first sun.

You can sometimes find these in winter with hoar frost all over, but they seem to survive the cold fairly easily. They need warmth to become active again, though.

Amazing coloring. It took me quite awhile to make out that first image. They blend so well. Incredible they can survive such cold as well. Guess there is a reason all these bugs will be here way after we are gone.
