An exotic caterpillar

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

At least, it looks exotic to me. I found it the other day sitting on a wooden pole in the countryside in the east of The Netherlands, which is not all that exotic a country to me.

It is the caterpillar of the lackey moth (Malacosoma neustria), ringelrups in Dutch:

As so often, this very colourful caterpillar will change into a rather modest moth:

This is one of the most colourful caterpillars I have ever seen in The Netherlands, and also the first time I have seen this species.

The caterpillar is so beautiful. Really cool colors on it :) It is pretty incredible that those colorful caterpillars turn into pretty dull moths!

Какой кошмар:) Но фотографии отличные ;)

Спасибо!

Very bright caterpillar!

It's exotic alright, check those colours!!

This one look very tropical indeed! Never seen anything like this in Belgium when I lived there but Cambodia is packed with them!
