A Citroën DS décapotable Chapron, just sitting there in the wild

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Busy Sunday today, so just a repost of a photo. New information has been added, though.

I saw this perfectly restored car standing in front of a former Citroën dealership (now Mazda) in my home town.

It is a Citroën DS décapotable (cabriolet) Chapron. Citroën built a four-door DS, and the company of Chapron turned it into an official factory cabriolet using quite a lot of new body panels.

It is an early 1970s car, but it has power steering and breaking, a 5-speed gearbox, self-levelling hydraulic suspension with selectable ride height, high beams that turn with the steering, electronic fuel injection, etc. It will cruise comfortably at a 100 mph, with a top speed of 117mph. The hydraulic suspension makes it one of the most comfortable cars ever built, yet it corners very well (having owned the closed version, I can attest to that).

Samsung Galaxy Sx, I wasn't carrying a proper camera 8-(

I think it is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Unfortunately they are hugely expensive now.

Previous car in the wild: A Jag.

That is a very nice looking car!

Beautiful! I should probably post some photos from a retro show, which took place a couple of years ago.
