The White Throated Kingfisher 🐦
Saw it sitting on a power line which runs above my garden.
Then it flew and sat on the nearest tree, which made it a good angle to take some pictures.
Halcyon Smyrnensis or the White Throated Kingfisher average length is about 28 centimeters.
Its head is large, its beak is red and long, and its tail is short.
His back, tail and most of his wings have a bright blue-green color, his chest and throat are white and his body is brown.
Unlike other species of kingfisher, white-chest is also found in areas, not near water bodies - like my home garden 😉
The kingfisher feeds on a large variety of prey. Among other things, he feeds on various species of shellfish, insects, fish, lizards, and amphibians.
There is evidence that it is also fed by small birds and rodents.
Although it is not a friendly bird, in Greek mythology the kingfisher appeared as a messenger who asked the gods to calm the sea and thus became a symbol of good luck, especially among seafarers.
Enjoy!
