Walk around Pots and PanssteemCreated with Sketch.

A clear but brisk day, we decided to take a walk around the land opposite Dovestone reservoir, drawn in by the monument that stood upon it. The map seemed to give the monument the name "Pots and Pans", which was a strange name, so we went to investigate. Not long after we began, we came across this happy looking horse. He was friendly and allowed me to stroke him, clearly used to passers by.

As we circled the top of the hill, we got views from different angles. This particular shot is of a house overlooking Saddleworth village.

Autumn colours could be seen on the trees spattering the landscape.

Finally we arrived at the top of the hill, the monument calling to us. Turns out it was a war memorial, put up to commemorate those lost in the surrounding villages during the world wars. The name Pots and Pans actually refers to the rock structures near by to the monument, where large holes can be seen in the top of the rocks, like naturally made pots and pans.

Views could be seen as far as Manchester, with the big city skyscrapers growing out of the horizon like silhouettes as the sun went down.

In a moment that almost seemed magical, the fading sun light beamed through gaps in the clouds, lighting up Greenfield in the valley below.

Content from our walk around newly discovered Pots and Pans and the war memorial that sat beside them, we made our way home.
