Winter Wanderland - Snjeznik, Croatia
Most of the people familiar with the Croatian tourism have in their minds images of beaches, crystal clear sea and the narrow-street old mediterranean towns... While this is definitly Croatia's best feature in tourism, we have our fair share of winter magic as well.
Snjeznik is a mountain located near the city of Rijeka. The summit is at 1506m. Below the summit there is a skying resort called Platak. The location is quite unique because while you are skying, you have a view of the sea if the day is clear.
I went hiking with some friends last week and I will share with you some of the magic created by the snow, cold and the wind.
Frozen guidepost. If you jump to conclusions you might say that the wind is blowing from left to the right. It's actually the oposite and that's why the small fragments of ice and snow get collected on the pole.
An abandoned mountain house. It's a great pity that this house is abandoned. The location is amazing, just below the summit and it's well protected from the wind. I was just a kid when it was still in operation so I never managed to visit it...
Big rock wearing it's snow coat. Looks like some creature looking down the valley.
The abandoned mountain house from a different angle. Again I can only say 'what a pity...'
Vegetation is struggling to survive the cold months. These icy features makes them look like some creatures from grandma's fairy tales.
Don't know about you folks, but it charges my batteries when I take a hike through an enviroment where the only sounds are the wind, and maybe birds in a different time of the year.
As the title says, winter wanderland...
The pictures were taken with Nikon D750. The lens in Samyang 24mm f1.4 - full manual lens. I enjoy this lens very much and I use it always when I know the subjects won't be moving too much.
