Peru extended Temporary Permit of Permanence to Venezuelans

The government of Peru extended until June 30, 2019 the deadline for Venezuelans who enter the country until December 31 of this year to apply for the Temporary Permit of Permanence (PTP), which allows them to work and pay taxes in the country. .

The decision was formalized in a supreme decree published in the official newspaper El Peruano with the signatures of the president of Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, and the interior minister, Vicente Romero.

The extension of the deadline to apply for the PTP, which was due today, came after hundreds of Venezuelans formed long queues in recent days to request it. The Venezuelan Union NGO in Peru today thanked the Peruvian government for the decision.

The measure was granted for the first time in February 2017 and was extended in July last year.

The PTP is a document that accredits the regular migratory situation of Venezuelans in the country and enables the beneficiary to develop activities within the framework of Peruvian legislation.

The National Superintendent of Migration, Eduardo Sevilla, indicated that since its entry into force, the PTP has allowed to regularize the immigration status of 25,000 Venezuelans, of whom 1,200 are minors, while there are another 75,000 Venezuelans with the migratory quality of tourists. .

"This is a solidarity initiative led by President Kuczynski towards the Venezuelan citizens who are in Peru," said Sevilla.

To process the PTP the applicant must have entered Peru until December 31 of this year, be in a regular or irregular migratory situation as a result of the expiration of their authorization of permanence or residence and have no police, judicial or criminal records. The permit is granted for a maximum period of one year.
