Sunsets over Caracas

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

In Caracas, my hometown, we can see beautiful sunsets depending of the time of the year. From December to February, which is the beginning of the dry season, the air is “very clear” and it is the ideal time for taking photos. During these months the rains have stopped and there is not too much dust in suspension on the air, since it is not too dry and the forestal fires has not started yet. It also is the time when the movies are filmed in the country. I have to admit I like very much take photos of sunsets with the vivid colours of the sky.

Caracas is a narrow valley located 900 meters above sea level. In the north there is an important mountain range, that separates the city from the sea. The highest peak in front of Caracas has an altitude of 2765 meters above sea level. The previous photo was taken at one of these mountains, El Avila at 2100 meters above sea level. You can see the lights of the city in contrast with the colors of the dusk at the sky. The city from that far looks quiet and calm, hiding the chaos that we live there. This photo was taken in the month of January.

This panoramic photo shows the mountain range of Parque Nacional El Ávila. From the top of one of this mountains, I took the previous photo. However the summit of these peaks are covered by clouds as this image shows. The city is at the foot of these mountains, for this reason Caracas has been called traditionally: La sultana del Ávila.

Other view of these magnificent mountains. These views have been motive of many paintings by the traditional artists of Venezuela, the best well-known is Manuel Cabré (1890-1984); for this reason he was called El pintor del Ávila (“The painter of El Avila”)

Other view of the city. It is taken from the north pointing towards the south.

Here is other photo of a sunset, showing the hills of the south-west of the city. Usually there are beautiful sunsets from these spots.

The first photo was taken using a Sony DSC-F717. The second was done by stitching 4 photos (taken with an iPhone 4) using Hugin. The third and fourth were taken with an Olympus C4040Z. For the rest of the photos of this post I used a Sony DSC-R1.

Agradezco el apoyo.

Some beautiful photos there mate. How is life in Venezuela with the hyperinflation, are you and your family doing ok my friend?

Life in Venezuela is very difficult indeed, and getting harder by the day. Usually I do not write about these matters in my blog, but I might write something about it, during the following days.

Great pictures. Looks like an interesting place.

Very well worth to get up to capture these images of the early morning sun.

Well, they were taken in the afternoon, during the sunset.

OMG .. haha ... for some reason I thought sunrise .. haha. Yeah, screw sunrises :)

Caracas una cuidad única y hermosa, buen pos, tienes mi voto, saludos!

El paisaje que rodea la ciudad es bonito, en especial El Ávila.
