Backstreets of Din Daeng

in #photography6 years ago

I love backstreets, you get a real sense of a place if you just get off the main roads. You feel and see reality, and these few pics I took when visiting a friend in a not so salubrious area of Bangkok called Din Daeng.

I also love taking photos at night, I adore the atmosphere but I think I need a new phone or better still, decent camera. Anyway, here they are ;-)

There is just so much going on!! People going about their lives. Just so normal but for an expat of 7 years, still as exciting as it was when I first stepped off the plane!

How many different modes of transport can you count in these pics!!

Motorcycle helmets haven't been invented yet in Thailand!!

Despite the recent change in law, the little old lady in the shop was still selling split packets of cigarettes at 5baht each!!

No shop? No problem. Just set up your food cart at the side of the road!!

I have absolutely no idea what they sold in that end shop, except maybe ice!!
On the way back, we stopped at the local market to eat but it was rather busy!

Thais don't like to give discounts when you buy in bulk as the price list for the Indonesian style BBQ pork skewers shows! So just in case you can't do the Maths......

Spooky Library

And on the way back, we spotted this book shop....and like a red rag to a bull, the wife had to go and take a look. Luckily for me, it was actually a library so she couldn't buy anything.
You can't see the lady who owned the shop because she was stuck behind the piles of books on the counter, but if you imagine where my wife is looking, that's where the little old lady was!!
A couple of things about this picture. Firstly, how the hell can anyone see what's on the top shelves! and secondly, notice the cobwebs around the lights! Looking at the state of the place it was like a step back in time and I'd imagine she didn't get many visitors anymore borrowing her books.

And that's Din Daeng in Bangkok. If you want to know where, I've posted the exact location on Steemit World Map. The 7/11 convenience store shown on the Map is the one on the left of the first picture!!

Where the Fun Lies.

Upvoted. Reminds me of alleys in Vietnam where I lived for 5 years teaching English. Many similarities it seems but I've yet to visit Thailand.

India Castles?

Was in Cambodia which was more India Like by maybe 4% than Vietnam. Something like that. A small number. I just made up that number. I love castles. I love your photos here. Very radical. Sorry, I'm a turtle and a turtle would say Radical. As in, Very Cool.
