15 minutes to the Canyon and back

It was several years ago, when planes from Russia to Egypt were flying. I did my underwater photography workshop in Dahab.



One day we made two dives in the Canyon. The weather was very windy and on most other dive sites there were difficulties with the entrance. Although of course there was also a wave here and on the surface we were always showered with salt spray. But the entrance to the water here through a small sandy pool, which is separated from the sea by a coral ridge, in which there is actually one passage.



The main idea of ​​these two dives was that the photographers first studied the place of the future shooting and tried to choose some of the most successful points and angles. And on the second dive it was necessary to make only three photos. That is, to implement the already prepared plan. There was more than enough time for each photo. And I myself watched all this from the side.



It all took about 30-40 minutes. As a result, when I had some of the air left to take pictures of myself. I did not want to leave one of the best dive sites in Dahab without photos. So I decided to float in the upper part of the Canyon and take a photo that I'll have time in 10-15 minutes. Moreover no one group was left inside.



Instead of the main passage to the Canyon, you can enter through a few small passes along the edges. I prefer them when no one interferes. There is always very nice to glow the sand on the bottom, in the deep part ...



Even in bad weather, there are many divers in the Canyon. I saw several times how queues lined up at the entrance. It is a pity that the fish in this case is not enough. Only a few lions at the entrance and a traditional flock of glass-fish in the top.



But time for shooting flies imperceptibly. It's time to swim back. On the way back often there is a strong current. And these two hundred meters can be a serious obstacle.
The last frames I do almost at the exit. Waves beautifully bend the surface of the water. Do not want to go out at all. Especially since the weather has completely deteriorated on the surface. The wind tries to knock it off its feet. And in full equipment with photographic equipment this is not very pleasant.
