World’s Longest Suspended Footbridge Opens In Switzerland: Don't Look Down
A 494m-long suspension bridge for hikers has opened in Randa, Switzerland. Those alpinists brave enough to make the crossing will be treated to views of the Matterhorn, Weisshorn and Bernese Alps.
The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge links the Swiss villages of Zermatt and Grächen on the Europaweg trail. It enables hikers to take a path that runs between 1,600m and 2,200m above sea level, and includes the deepest cut valley in Switzerland.
It was built by Swissrope and Lauber in only 10 weeks, and uses 8 tonnes of cables to stop the deck from swinging in high winds.
Crossing the bridge takes 10 minutes and is inadvisable during stormy weather as there is a “danger of lightning”. Those behind the project say “the thrill of traversing the precipice is indescribable”.

Wow! Switzerland is and has always been a place I would like to travel. I just need to wait until I can afford it! A student budget wouldn't get me too far in Switzerland unfortunately. But I would LOVE to visit. From an airplane it looks magnificent and this bridge would definitely get the adrenaline up and running! Perfect combo - beautiful scenery and a little adrenaline rush :) Are you from Switzerland?
No, am not.
