Travel Challenge # 11: Devetashka cave

in #photography7 years ago

Hello friends. Our journey to explore the beautiful nature of Bulgaria continues. I have not yet even shown you a small part of it. For many years I have postponed this journey for one reason or another, and when the time has come, I went to a jolt for all the missed years in hesitation. The important thing is that at last go and you can touch the magic of this cave :)

The cave is formed in the Aptano-Uralian limestone. The magnificent and semi-elliptical entrance of 30x35 meters leads to a gallery that expands and forms the largest cave in Bulgaria. Illuminated by 7 openings (called by the local population), the hall occupies an area of 25,000 square meters.

The maximum height of the ceiling is at the "Kosherishteto" (58 meters) and the largest "ochno" (73x48 meters) is the "Cilic" with a height of 51 meters. The volume of the hall is 643,000 square meters, which makes it commensurate with the large halls in the world and the largest on the Balkan Peninsula. In some places the water flow forms different lakes and lakes. Several sinter thresholds with a height of 5-8 meters in the dark part of the cave and lakes are natural obstacles along the path of the caveman. The first studies of engineer Pavel Petrov, which first uses hand-made detachable wooden boats, penetrate to the end of the water galleries, do hydrogeological studies and map of the cave. The temperature of the water is 9-13 °. The waters of the Devetashka Cave go out of 14 springs, some of them dry in the summer, and the flow of the others decreases.

First reported in 1877 by the English traveler JBaker, the cave was first explored in 1921 by Gavril Katsarov, who established traces of material culture. The current map of the cave was made in 1994 by the Republican expedition specially organized by H. Iliev, Ts. Ostromski, I. Tachev and other cavers from Sofia.

Devetashka Cave is one of the three most important underground bats in Europe. Until now, 45 species of animals are known from the Devetashka Cave. Not included in this issue are some species of birds such as owl, owl, swallowtail, paleflower, reddish tails that make their nests in the rocks around the entrance. Three of the 45 species are triglobontids: the Trichoniscus tenebrarum, the creeper cricket Niphargus bureshi and the Lithobius tiasnatensis. Twenty-one species are the triglobals, including 11 species of bats. The other 21 species are triangles.

Today, the cave can be visited, but this is not always the case. For a long time, it was a secret military object.

Like many caves in Bulgaria and this has had an unusual purpose. In the 1990s, for example, it was used to store oil.

Devetashka cave has been inhabited since ancient times. Traces of human presence during the Early Stone Age (70000 years before Christ) were discovered. The reason for this is the good conditions for living inside - spacious, lighted in great depth, convenient for defense, adjacent to springs and rivers, woods with pastures, pastures and fertile land.
