A Whole New World

'Tis rainy season again here in the Philippines, or in our province, to be specific. I've always hated heavy rain especially during weekdays because I only have a pair of shoes and few pairs of pants. Also, our area is very prone to flood. However, recently, I captured a moment that changed my mindset during rainy days.

MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE ... ROAD?

Do you still remember @zareceerine and I's photo escapade? It rained that day and this was what I captured:

This is a shot of one of the buildings in my university. I have been walking across this path and I have never appreciated the view this much. It looked like an alternative reality was waiting to be discovered and the only way through is the puddle of water. It's like I'm trapped between the two identical worlds, equally beautiful, equally mysterious.

This one was taken near the pond. I love how realistic the reflection can be, how I can see the details of the real world. I wonder, if I jumped into the pond, would I be able to reach the sky? Of course, that's a silly question. But when you see something like this, you would be so overwhelmed to the point that it's okay to be silly.

Hiro's brother, Tadashi, from Big Hero 6 once said when the situation is rough,

Look for a new angle!

Well, it is not only for difficult moments. There are also beautiful things in this world, when seen at a different angle, or at two different angles at the same time, that are still beautiful.

Pretty wonderful, aren't they? It's like a whole new world is peeking through those puddles of water.

REFLECTION...

Since, we are talking about looking at a new perspective, let us explore the other definition of the word "reflection", apart from the image form through bending of light. Reflection can also mean an image or idea produced through meditation or contemplation.

Reflection is looking through ourselves, assessing and living how our actions and words could and should reflect how we want others to treat us. I mentioned earlier that I've always hated heavy rain, but after some contemplation and self-reflection, instead of feeling bad about experiencing difficulty when raining, we should grab this opportunity to help and show support to those who are really suffering when there is a heavy rain.

This is a typical scenario in the Philippines when there is a huge storm. I bet I have more pair of pants than some of the people in the picture have but they don't complain, they don't feel bothered about it. It's an opportunity to help others, it's an opportunity to be united.

In life, there will always come a time wherein you will encounter your own heavy rain, whether metaphorical or literal. You just gotta choose how you will see it. Always remember that after the rain, there is a rainbow... and a puddle of water.
