SteemitPhotoChallenge Entry - Steemit Photo Challenge 8 - Long Exposure

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

I love taking pictures of the city at night!

Entry #1
Beneath the Freeway

While most things in the frame are not moving, I feel the lines of the elevated freeway, the road below, even the lines of the office building converging on one point, gives a strong sense of movement to the photo.

Entry #2
Cyclist

This cyclist was waiting for the crosswalk to change, luckily she was immobilized long enough by her phone to stay sharp while the cars carved light paths on the surrounding roads.

Entry #3
I've posted it to Steemit before, in a post unrelated to the contest, about a month ago, but I really like it so I'm entering it into the contest.

Unrelated tips: winter is the best time to take pictures of cities at night! Many people will still be at work in the early evening when it's dark and as such most offices will still have the lights on. The bottom two pictures were taken around 7:00pm!
Even more important is a tripod! Don't have one, get one. It sounds flippant but seriously get one.

Where is this?

Osaka, Japan. Near Umeda Station and Chayamachi.

Beautiful shots. Capturing the highlights of a seemingly busy and lively city night. The stretched tail and headlights makes the streets seem full of life when it maybe only one or two vehicles roaming around in the early morning. Upvoted great stuff!

Thanks. It was evening so, in reality, there are lots of cars. Long exposure makes them disappear! You can use that trick for photos of buildings too, use an ND filter and a long exposure time, anything that moves....is gone!

Nice strategy/technique that is good to know. I misread your post lol it clearly says 7pm however 7pm and 5am could look similar as the sun is going down or just coming up. :) again beautiful shots looking forward to more posts.

Yes, they would look similar, I'm typically more awake at 7pm though! However, if you can get up early enough early morning city shots would probably stand out, a completely different pallet of subjects as well! Far fewer people are willing to get up early enough to get those shots!

Set your alarm and take one for the team. Do it for the steemit community and sacrifice your sleep for one day for a glorious set of pictures lol

I'll think about it. :P

Photos are awesome :) Thanks :)

Very welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Gorgeous shot, and great tips!

There's nothing like the beauty of Osaka in the evening, with all the lights, neon, architecture, etc.

There are so many different scenes too, from ultra high-tech looking places to areas that would be at home in "Blade Runner".

Nice vivid shots! Upvoted.

Thank you very much @sulev!
