Happy Snappy Ecologist: Leaf-cutter Bee
Todays fascination - this fantastic leaf-cutter bee. Isn't she gorgeous? I love the bright orange pollen brushes under her abdomen. I find bees really tricky to photograph as they're so very busy all the time but this one was just about snappable!
I am a Happy Snappy Ecologist as wandering amongst nature, observing and capturing moments makes me very happy! I take photos to record what I see, inspire others and to allow me to identify species later. I love discussion about ecology, conservation and species identification so please do comment if you can add any information about the species I'm posting or if you disagree with an identification.
I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ45 which my brother recently gave me in exchange for random offerings of organic fruit & veg to the value of the camera. I also use a Raynox 150 clip on macro lens for a lot of my really close shots or tiny insects - though I also enjoy just sneaking up really close on standard macro settings. All images are with the camera hand held - feeling for that magic moment between the breeze and the subtle shake of my hands.
