Beautiful Colour Crepe-myrtle Flower

in #photography2 months ago

Crepe-myrtle is a beloved and versatile genus of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. Originating from the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania, crepe-myrtles have found a place in gardens and urban landscapes worldwide due to their stunning flowers, attractive bark, and overall hardiness.
Botanical Characteristics
Crepe-myrtles are known for their long-lasting, vibrant blossoms that typically bloom from mid-summer to early autumn. The flowers come in various shades, including pink, red, white, and purple, and are arranged in large, showy panicles. The petals are delicate and crinkled, resembling crepe paper, which gives the plant its common name.
The foliage of crepe-myrtle is also noteworthy. The leaves are usually dark green, turning to shades of yellow, orange, or red in the fall, providing a second season of interest. The bark of mature trees exfoliates in thin strips, revealing a smooth, mottled surface beneath. This bark is particularly attractive in winter, adding year-round appeal.
Species and Varieties
There are several species of crepe-myrtle, but the most commonly cultivated is Lagerstroemia indica. This species has been extensively hybridized with others, particularly Lagerstroemia fauriei, to produce a wide range of cultivars that vary in size, flower color, and disease resistance.
