In this POST I told you about Giovinazzo and its beautiful historical center which faces onto the sea.
Today I want to talk about one of the most beautiful church in Giovinazzo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.
In questo POST, vi ho parlato di Giovinazzo e del suo bellissimo centro storico che si affaccia sul mare.
Oggi vi vorrei parlare di una delle chiese più belle di Giovinazzo, la Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta.

The Cathedral was built in the XII century in Norman Age, datable between 1125 and 1180 while the building was consecrated only a century later, in 1283.
La Cattedrale fu costruita in epoca Normanna e precisamente nel XII secolo tra il 1125 e il 1180 mentre fu consacrata solo un secolo dopo, nel 1283.

It was initially built as a Romanesque cathedral made up of three naves divided by columns and mosaic floor. This church today remain few traces, due to the renovation during the XVIII century which led to the total reconstruction of the interior according to the baroque taste
Inizialmente fu costruita secondo lo stile Romanico composta di tre navate divise da colonne e con un pavimento a mosaico. Oggi di questa chiesa rimangono poche tracce a causa del rinnovamento durante il XVIII secolo che ha portato alla completa ricostruzione degli interni secondo lo stile Barocco.

The interior of the church has three naves divided by columns and three side chapel for side and beautiful high altar.
All'interno la chiesa è composta da tre navate divise da colonne, tre cappelle per lato e un bellissimo altare maggiore.

The tomb of the noble knight Enrico Zurlo is positioned in central nave.
Nella Cattedrale è posta la tomba del nobile cavaliere Enrico Zurlo

There's a beautiful baptismal font in the church and it was carved from a local stone slab.
Nella chiesa c'è anche una bellissima e antica fonte battesimale fatta in pietra locale.

The pulpit is raised well above the surrounding floor and it is close to the altar.
Il pulpito è sollevato molto sopra il pavimento circostante ed è vicino all'altare.
If you do come to Giovinazzo, you must visit this cathedral, I highly recommend you do!
Se venite a Giovinazzo, dovete assolutamente visitare questa Cattedrale, ve lo consiglio caldamente!

What a spectacle of place, I would like to visit it at some point. The temple and the cathedral are attractive because they recreate the cavern spatially and acoustically, where humans began to express their spiritual longings.

Forse nella foto di oggi non rende molto l'idea... ma se fai un salto nel mio post precedente su Giovinazzo (trovi il link all'inizio di questo post) ti rendi conto che sono totalmente diverse sia fuori che dentro ;-)
Il riferimento non era all'esterno, ma all'interno. L'immagine che ho postato, giustamente ha tratto in inganno.
Im mio riferimento è principalmente all'uso di una pietra locale chiara, comune ai due casi, per alcuni elementi decorativi.
Ho studiato italiano a universita di Siena, unfortunately I now forget many of the things I learned seeing the cathedrals is awesome, it was such a beautiful country!
