Tricase è un borgo della provincia di Lecce, nella regione italiana meridionale della Puglia. Questo paese, terra dei cinque castelli e della Quercia Vallonea, nacque da tre masserie presenti sul territorio che costituirono un'alleanza per affrontare gli attacchi dei Saraceni.

Tricase è un'antica città e nell'anno 1200 molti proprietari terrieri combattevano per mettere le mani su queste meravigliose terre baciate dal sole. Gli ultimi signori feudali furono i principi Gallone, un'importante famiglia della Terra D'Otranto, che trovarono residenza a Tricase e vi rimasero per molto tempo. Molto famoso è il castello della famiglia, che non è altro che il Palazzo dei Principi di Gallone, splendido edificio e centro culturale della città.

Oggi Tricase comprende quattro villaggi racchiusi in uno solo, cinque castelli, due frazioni, due porti turistici e un porto. All'interno del villaggio, in alcuni punti è presente una forte concentrazione di testimonianze romane, in altri invece medievali, in altri stili rinascimentali e barocchi.
Tricase è un crogiolo di civiltà e stratificazioni del passato. Con i numerosi baroni in età angioina passato nella giurisdizione Orsini del Balzo, fino a superare il Rinascimento e giungere nel 1588 nelle mani della famiglia Gallone, capace di elevare Tricase a sede del Principato nel 1651. Ufficialmente fino alla eversione feudale di 1806, e in via ufficiosa fino alla scomparsa dell'ultimo principe Gallone, la potente famiglia governò la città riflettendo su di essa tutte le sue peculiarità.

Nel centro storico spiccano la Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, una delle sette perle di architettura di Lecce, il Castello dei Principi Gallone, e la chiesa matrice, dedicata alla Natività della Beata Vergine Maria.
Merita una visita anche la scenografica chiesa conventuale dei Domenicani dedicata a San Domenico da Guzman, senza dubbio è la chiesa più barocca della città.

Partire dal centro significa andare alla scoperta di altre perle, come la Chiesa di Santa Maria del Tempio. Al di fuori del nucleo storico, un tempo in aperta campagna, ma oggi incorporata nella parte più moderna di Tricase, sorge la Chiesa e il Convento dei Cappuccini, con l'aspetto di una fortezza con la sua caditoia e che conserva una piccola chiesa con un prezioso altare ligneo .

Sulla strada che conduce alla Marina di Tricase c'è uno degli alberi più antichi d'Italia, la quercia Vallonea con i suoi 700 anni di vita, considerato monumento botanico.

Cosa vedere: il centro storico, il Castello del Principe di Gallone, la Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, la chiesa matrice della Natività della Beata Vergine Maria, la chiesa dei Domenicani, la chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, la Chiesa di Santa Maria del Tempio, la Chiesa e il Convento dei Cappuccini, la Quercia Vallonea.

Tricase is a town in the province of Lecce, in the Southern Italian region of Puglia. This village, land of the five castles and della Quercia Vallonea, was born from three farmhouses present on the territory which formed an alliance to face the attacks of the Saracens.

Tricase is an ancient city, and in year 1200 many landowners were fighting to have their hands over these wonderful lands kissed by the sun. The last feudal lords were the Gallone Princes, an important family of Terra D'Otranto, who found residence in Tricase and stayed there for a very long time. Very famous is the castle of the family, which is none other than the Prince's Palace of Gallone, beautiful building and cultural center of the city.

Today Tricase comprises four villages enclosed in only one, five castles, two fractions, two marinas and a port. Inside the village, in some points is a strong concentration of Roman evidences, in other medieval instead, in still other renaissance and baroque styles.
Tricase is a melting pot of civilisations and stratification of the past. By the numerous barons in Angevin age passed in the jurisdiction of the Balzo Orsini, up to overcome the Renaissance and arrive in 1588 in the hands of the family gallon, capable of elevating Tricase seat of the Principality in 1651. Officially until the feudal eversion of 1806, and unofficially until the disappearance of the last princess gallon, the powerful family ruled the city reflecting on it all its peculiarities.

In the centre stand out the Church of St. Michael Archangel, one of the seven pearls of architecture of Lecce, the Castle of the Princes Gallone, and the matrix church, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Also worth a visit is the scenographic conventual church of the Dominicans dedicated to San Domenico da Guzman, without doubt is the most baroque churches of the city.

Departing from the center means to go to the discovery of other pearls, such as the Church of Santa Maria of the Temple. Outside the historic nucleus, a time in the open countryside but today incorporated in the more modern part of Tricase, rises The Church and Convent of the Capuchins, with the appearance of a fortress with its machicolation preserves a small church fregiata with a precious wooden altar.

On the road that leads to Tricase Porto Marina is one of the oldest trees in Italy, the Vallonea Oak with 700 years of life, said botanical monument.
