Portrait of Don Snyder - one of the great photographers of the daysteemCreated with Sketch.

This is one my favorite photos I took back in the early 90's. It is a portrait of the brilliant photographer Don Snyder in his 23rd Street Chelsea apartment in New York City. Don was one of the most under-discovered photographers of the time. He lived with Timothy Leary for some time, and traveled with many of the music greats of the time, like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. His one and only book was entitled "Aquarian Odyssey," which was a photo story of the 60's/Woodstock world. Sadly, he was a terrible business man and far too trusting. The greatest part of his collection was stolen when he lent his one and only originals to a publisher who disappeared with them. His greatest was his photo essay of Coney Island, which was a collection of photos taken over decades, showing a Coney Island that no longer exists, but it never saw the light of day as he died before he could get is published.

I met Don via my ex-wife, who was his student, and herself a professional photographer who worked for "Time Life" (now Time Magazine) and as an assistant to Gordon Parks. Those are two of our three kids in the shot, as they were trying to get the coat hanger antenna to work on his 1950's TV.
