Dramatic lighting

Sometimes regular macro photos can be boring, I mean, it's great to have detailed subject in your photos with perfect lighting. But, when you have control of lighting, you can create pretty dramatic photos of something that we see everyday, flies. I already talked about my lighting setup, hand held flash and flash trigger. What this gives me it's opportunity to create different kind of ligthing on subject. I wanted to create this dramatic portrait of fly, I was able to experiment few minutes before she flied away.

First I came with this tight shot of her eyes that are really amazing to look close up. This dramatic portraits are used with one light source and it's lighting only one half of face and other is not well lit, like in this example.

Second one had same light position but different focal length, as you can see, I moved further so I can have full body in my frame but yet have dramatic feel to image. Try it yourself if you have this equipment, you can do it even with flashlight but brighter one because you need a lot of light for taking macro photos.
