My Night in the Mills! ABANDONED MASSIVE STEEL MILL
The hum of the electricity buzzing in the air. The heat from active coke oven smokestacks just far enough away to not burn. The greasy dust, piling up on everything, is inches thick. It's pretty amazing the amount of dust and grease that can settle in just 10 years of disuse.
The original plan was to "mothball" this mill temporarily. The term "mothballing" in simple terms is the shuttering of a plant or facility temporarily, throwing a sheet on all machines, leaving 95% power running. A shut down that could be reversed simply and have the facility up and running within hours, or days.
But indecision within the new owners left this mill abandoned, and its sister mill fully renovated and updated. It's the way the sword swings, I guess. But as an avid Urban Explorer, I'm also not complaining! Here is a nice little gallery from my night in the mills!
