CHERRY BLOSSOM IN TOKYO: NAKAMEGURO RIVER (花見)
CHERRY BLOSSOM IN TOKYO: NAKAMEGURO RIVER (花見)
I have come to discover that Hanami (花見) is a very special even in Japan. With literally thousands of sakura trees around the area, Japan scenery changes completely during the first few weeks of spring.
My favorite spot to watch and experience Hanami in Tokyo is definitely the Nakameguro River. Simply walking along the place gives you a really special feeling that cannot be described until you are physically there walking and getting lost in the beautiful pink swarm of flower that surrounds you.
About 800 cherry trees line Meguro River for several hundred meters and create an amazing sight. Meguro River does offer a very natural surrounding for blossom viewers.
During the Nakameguro Sakura Festival, the trees are lit up in the evenings by pink lanterns that are placed along the river. The Cherry blossom view there is incredible and definitely my favorite spot in Tokyo to visit during Hanami (花見) season.
Please sit back, relax and enjoy the experience!
Hanami season last only 2-3 weeks and usually falls mid March beginning of April. I had the chance to experience this magic event this year.
Everyone takes a break from their everyday life to enjoy some delicious food and chilled drinks under the sakura.
Would you like to visit Tokyo during hanami? If you need any suggestion on where to go and what to see in Japan let me know! I will be happy to help!
